Fireplace Repair Services in Dallas
A fireplace is a small system. The firebox holds the fire, the damper opens and closes the flue, and the chimney carries smoke out. Gas fireplaces add a burner, pilot, valve and logs. When one part fails, the whole fireplace stops working the way it should.
We repair all of it. That includes 1960s brick fireplaces in Lake Highlands, factory-built metal units in newer North Dallas homes, and gas fireplaces in Uptown condos. Every visit starts the same way: we look, we take photos, and we give you a written price.
How a Fireplace Repair Visit Works
- Tell us the symptom. On the phone, we ask what the fireplace is doing, what fuel it uses and how old it is.
- Protect the room. Drop cloths go down from the door to the hearth before we touch anything.
- Find the cause. We test gas parts with a meter, check the damper and firebox by hand, and run a camera up the flue when the problem points there.
- Show you the photos. You see what we see, and you get a free written estimate for the repair.
- Fix and test. If you say yes, we make the repair and test the fireplace before we leave. No upselling.
Many repairs are done on the first visit. If a part has to be ordered for your make and model, we tell you how long it will take.

Gas Fireplace Repair
Gas fireplaces are very common in Dallas. Most service calls come down to a few parts: the pilot, the thermocouple or thermopile, the igniter, the gas valve and the remote receiver. Soot on the glass or a burner that lights with a loud pop are also signs that something is off.
We test each part, clean the burner and pilot, and replace what has failed. If you smell gas, leave the house and call Atmos Energy or 911 first. Read more on our gas fireplace repair page.
Firebox Repair
The firebox is the part of the fireplace you can see, lined with firebrick or refractory panels. Heat cycles crack the brick and wear out the mortar over time. When gaps open up, heat can reach the wood framing behind the wall.
We replace broken firebricks, repoint the joints with heat-rated mortar, and swap cracked panels in factory-built units. See our firebox repair page for what we check and how it works.
Chimney Damper Repair
The damper is the metal plate that closes the flue when the fireplace is off. In Dallas, old throat dampers rust from humidity and storm water, then stick, warp or fall out of their track. A damper that will not close lets your cooled air escape all summer.
We repair the handle and track when we can. When the plate is past saving, we install a top-sealing damper at the top of the chimney that also keeps out rain and animals. Learn more about fixing a stuck or broken damper.
Fireplace Installation
Sometimes the right answer is a new unit. If a factory-built fireplace has a burned-out firebox, or you want to add a gas insert to an old wood fireplace, we install new wood, gas and insert fireplaces per the manufacturer’s listing and code. A licensed plumber handles any new gas line. Visit our fireplace installation page for options.
Gas Log Installation
Worn gas logs lose their color, crumble and throw off the flame pattern, which can leave soot on the firebox and glass. We refurbish good log sets and install new vented or vent-free sets sized to your firebox. See gas log installation for how to choose.
Signs Your Fireplace Needs Repair
Dallas weather is hard on fireplaces. Spring hail and wind knock caps loose and let rain reach the damper and firebox. Humid summers rust metal parts, and long gaps between uses let small problems grow. Call for a fireplace repair if you notice any of these:
- The pilot goes out or the burner will not light
- A gas smell, or a sharp smell when the fireplace is running
- Black soot on the glass, logs or the face of the fireplace
- Smoke or a draft coming into the room
- Cracked firebrick, loose mortar or gaps in the firebox
- A damper that sticks, will not close or will not open
- Rust or water stains inside the firebox after a storm
Fireplace Safety and Carbon Monoxide
A fireplace that does not burn or vent right can put carbon monoxide into your home. The U.S. Fire Administration recommends having heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected by a professional every year. Keep working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in the house too. If an alarm goes off, turn the fireplace off, get everyone outside and call 911.
A yearly fireplace inspection catches most of these problems early, before they turn into a bigger repair.
